Unresolved problems can have a destructive effect on the health and wellness of our First Responders. No one should have to face the emergencies and sometimes tragedies they face day in and day out.
Someone with the skills and experience needs to be there for them when they need help. A First Responder specific clinician needs to be:
Strong
Culturally Competent
Experienced
Available in Person
Available via TeleHealth
It is sometimes difficult for a spouse to provide therapeutic support, understanding and the experience to address the issues at hand. They do not live in the moment of the First Responders on the scene of a crisis. Access to those who understand the First Responders’ experience/environment, will be most effective in helping to bring them clarity.
At this stage of wellness, the first responder needs ongoing support or counseling to continue the healing process, build resilience through practicing healthy coping behaviors, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
And there’s a lot more to do. Make a tax-deductible donation to support the First Responder Health Foundation.
