When traumatic events impact the community, the nation and the world, there are harmful stress reactions that damage work performance, health or family relations. Often the lingering effects can be destructive.
A critical incident often requires a team to address the immediate and long-term effects of the incident. Human nature does not immediately process the impact of what occurred or was witnessed. Knowledgeable, experienced clinicians are essential for:
Stress Defusing
Stress Debreifing
Accelerating Recovery
On-Call Incidents
Group / Individual Post Briefings
First responders encounter many traumatic sights and situations on a daily basis. Some incidents are even more severe than others – such as mass casualties, extreme injuries, or heavy violence. It can be very hard to ‘unsee’ some aspects of these events. In such cases, a higher level of support is required to enable responders to move forward.
This is the all-hands-on-deck pillar to respond to the worst situations. Catastrophic events can leave scars for everyone involved – those with boots on the ground as well as those waiting at home. First responders are often psychologically affected by extreme levels of loss and human suffering. In turn, their work performance and their relationships with loved ones are negatively affected. Therefore, it’s necessary to unpack critical incident trauma through various types of intervention.
